Someone asked me "Why would you do this?"

Why not? I've personally used Agile with PMBok many times to improve the project in many ways. One way is in Estimating Budget/Time/Resources by doing both WBS with Solution BackLog work. It gave much better estimates that the "team" bought-in on as well. I call it "WBS-agile style".

You can find the latest on PMI Agile Community of Practice, by loggin in to PMI and searching on “PMI Agile Community of Practice” and join (it’s free). You’ll find many valuable sources of information, including the Business Plan for the Agile PMI Forum. It contains a wealth of information about the proliferation of agile project management practices as well.
